The Raleigh-based exploratory jazz trio had the Hive buzzing Friday night. It didn’t take long for head-bobbing grooves to wash over the audience in the upstairs bar above the Busy Bee Cafe. The incredible set was a mix of original tracks and covers from the trio’s latest record. My favorites were the original cut “Liquid White Chocolate” and the absolutely epic pairing of Roxette’s “Listen to Your Heart” and the Police’s “Roxanne.” Both of those tracks are available as a free download on guitarist Chris Boerner’s website, chrisboernermusic.com.
Drummer Nick Baglio was impressive, playing drums and keys simultaneously. Along with keeping the beat, and at times taking over, he sprinkled in awesome synths on keys while dropping one stick to use both hands if he needed to.
